Periodontal Disease

(Dr. Name or Practice) is committed to delivering the best treatment and prevention of periodontal disease and gum disease to our patients in (city). More than half of adults have some form of periodontal disease. Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, is a chronic inflammation of the gums that also affects tissue and the bone that support the teeth. Severe cases of periodontal disease ultimately will result in permanent teeth loss if left untreated. Additionally, chronic gum inflammation has been linked to inflammatory diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Periodontal disease is not something to be taken lightly, as it can affect your overall physical health and well being.

Routine teeth cleaning and proper oral hygiene is the best prevention of periodontal disease. By receiving regular checkups, early stages of gum disease can be detected and treated immediately to repair damage to prevent further infection of the mouth. We also implement treatment and preventative therapies to support ongoing gum and teeth health.

Early forms of periodontal disease may not cause pain and often goes undetected until it has progressed into a more serious stage of infection. We cannot emphasize the importance of routine examinations for this reason alone. As plaque and tartar build up on the teeth from natural exposure to food and bacteria, the bacteria can inflame the gums causing gingivitis (gum disease). Daily teeth brushing and flossing helps get rid of some of this inflammation causing bacteria caused from plaque, but only a professional cleaning can remove the tartar.

Periodontal DiseaseWe have periodontal treatments and preventative therapies for any stage of gum disease.
